#HolidayCardProject by Night-the-PantherCat
So, these are all the cards I made for the Holiday Card Project. I haven't mailed them yet, as I plan to give them out at the hospital 2 blocks down the street. ^^ Merry Christmas everyone!
Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone! I really appreciate it!
Night Icon
I made this icon myself (with a base), and finally found somewhere to make it into a Gif. For now, it's my new icon. ^^ Enjoy!
So I’ve noticed that it seems to be really hard for some people to create characters with good design and color elements. Thus, I decided to make this handy guide that will tell you everything you need to know about creating a good character.

Step 1: The Beginning – Your character’s visual design

Every character has a beginning point. For most people, that beginning point is an idea of some kind. Personally, I prefer to doodle out ideas until I find one that I like. You can also create a character based off of a theme, color, item, or design. The one thing you want to majorly avoid here is doing a recolor or making a character that is extremely similar to an official or pre-existing one. No one likes it when you take a picture of Sonic, add some funky colors and call it a new character, or sibling of the original. Seriously, you WILL be attacked for it, and frankly you deserve it because you brought it on yourself. Also, taking inspiration from someone else’s design is ok, but blatantly taking a part of that design without adding your own special changes or touches (essentially your own style) to it is still stealing! If you do base a part of your character’s design off of the design of someone else, then you need to credit them!

Now then, for the actual design you should first pick out some details. What will their hair look like? Try Googling some different hair styles to choose one you like. Next, what species are they? Are they a human? An animal? A robot? What species you pick can be critical to specific details in your character, like claws, eyes, a tail or tails, etc. Also, if you do pick and animal, don’t be afraid to exaggerate a well know characteristic of their biology! Giving a praying mantis retractable blades in his upper wrists is a cool way of allowing him to attack and pick up objects! Giving a bird wings that are part of their arms and fold away at their elbows is a neat way of allowing them to fly while still giving them hands to pick up stuff and open doors. Never be afraid to experiment!

What gender is your character? This may determine what clothing they have. What kind of clothing does your character wear? Just gloves and shoes? Or are they boots? Do they wear a jacket? A leotard/suit? Do they wear a dress or skirt? How about jewelry, does your character carry a pocket watch or wear a necklace, earrings or bracelet? Do they have robotic blasters attached to their arms?! Finding a style that fits your character is key! Don’t try to take styles or designs from official characters, it just looks stupid. However, you can try Googling clothing or clothing design to get some ideas. Does your character carry any items? I have a character named Hydraulik. She is a ferret, a Power Type character (she’s really strong) and she’s a mechanic. I gave her a giant wrench to heft around that serves as a design element, a weapon, and a hint to what she does as a profession. Items that are held by or float around your character are a good way to give them depth. You don’t HAVE to have them hold items though.

And finally, try to pick colors that work well together. There’s nothing wrong with your character having blue fur with orange stripes, so long as you make sure that the placement, size, and shape of the stripes works well. Contrasting colors aren’t a bad thing, but you need to make sure you use them well. Do these bright colors help your character stand out from their clothing? Or do they make him/her look too obnoxious? Is the clothing random colors, or is there a color scheme to them? Having a set color scheme is definitely the better way to go. It’s ok if you include an extra color to provide a bit of an accent, but just plastering colors on willy-nilly is just a waste of time and effort since it looks horrible. An easy way to find good color schemes is to take a look at the Themes in Microsoft PowerPoint. These themes were created by professionals, and all of them have color schemes that work fantastically. What if I don’t like a certain color in the scheme? That’s ok! Since you can edit the themes, you can take a look at what a theme will look like with a specific color replaced by another. Lastly, try to pick clothing that has multiple colors or hues. It’s ok if you character wears all blue, so long as they wear different SHADES of blue. Unless it’s a simple dress, having the clothing be all one color/shade or almost all one color/shade is very obnoxious and frankly rather ugly to the viewer. It also labels you as a noob who knows nothing about design.

Step 2: Who are you? – Your character’s personality

Arguably the most important part of a character, the personality is what defines your character as an individual. But, a personality is more than just a few simple words like “fiery, has a bad temper, loves sweets”. Just like real people, characters have complex ways of thinking and a nearly endless range of emotions and flaws. NEVER make your character a Mary-Sue/Gary Stu. In other words, no one is perfect and your character is no exception! Your character can’t be the prettiest/handsomest while also being the smartest, strongest, fastest, easiest to get along with, most level headed, and best at everything. That is simply not something that is possible for, well anyone really. Pick a few things that your character is good at. My character Hydraulik is strong and very laid back (it’s nearly impossible to get her angry), but she’s not all that fast (average really), and she can’t fly like her friend/teammate Scythe the Praying Mantis. In fact, Hydraulik is afraid of heights! I just gave you a micro description of Hydraulik’s personality and you can already see that she is not perfect or the best at everything, and has a clear flaw.

Now then, it’s not a bad idea to start off with a small description like I said was unacceptable in the beginning, but you need to build on it. For example, “fiery, has a bad temper, likes sweets” can be turned into “(Name) is a fiery person who can’t stand to see their friends hurt and never backs down from a fight even when they’re outmatched. (Name) has a bad temper and is quick to jump to conclusions and into fights. (Name) loves to eat sweets, but can’t stand anything spicy and their favorite food is cream puffs.” Not a bad start I’d say. There is a small look into the character’s good traits, but also a clear definition of flaws. Not backing down from a fight could get them hurt or cloud their judgment, same with a bad temper. A bad temper could mean they don’t have many friends, and jumping to conclusions is never a good thing. You’ve also opened the door to the character’s likes and dislikes, which is a good start to a complex and fantastic personality.

Good places to start defining a personality are “Likes/Dislikes”, “Favorites”(Food, Holiday, etc.), “Fears”, “Job”, and “Hobbies”. You can start defining your character by considering how they view things. How do they view their friends? Do they see enemies as threats or obstacles, or even as playthings? What is their view of life? Are weak people nothing but worthless scum (villain) or is all life precious (Hero)? Are their priorities based on what is right or on what will help them accomplish their goals (Neutral)? Do they see themselves as something specific? Does your character see themselves as a hero or a villain? Is your character confused about which side they stand on? Does your character have a soft spot for kids and spoil them, or do they think that kids are just wreched little monsters who do nothing but break things and whine?

Another good way to define personality is thinking about how your character will react to everyday situations. Say someone spills food or a drink on your character. What do they do? Do they say “No worries, it’s fine dude” and laugh it off? Do they yell at the person? Do they flip a table in rage? Does your character have powers, and do they use those powers to destroy the place? Do they go “tch” and get a napkin? Do they pretend nothing happened? Do they get vengeance for an expensive piece of clothing that was ruined by the spill? Do THEY apologize for the accident instead of the person who spilled the food/drink in the first place? Do they cry? Do they run away in shame/embarrassment? Also think about how your character reacts to others who might be friends, acquaintances, or family. When the toughest friend your character knows is away, what do they do? Do they just keep doing what they have been doing? Do they trash the place? Do they set up a prank for the friend’s return? Do they flip a table out of mischief because they would never be able to do such things with the friend there? Do they tell embarrassing stories about the friend? Read the friend’s diary aloud? D they go through the friend’s closet and steal some cool clothes or put them on to do an impersonation and act silly? Do they make fun of the friend’s personality? The way characters react to changes is important in defining who they are.

Part 3: What happened to YOU? – The Backstory

A character’s past goes hand in hand with their personality. A character with a darker personality likely suffered some sort of trauma sometime in the past that now makes them act this way. A character who is full of themselves or is a bit of a brat was likely and only child or a rich child who got everything they asked for and never had to share things. So ask yourself, what has my character done? Have they suffered emotional scars? Have they saved the world? Where have they traveled to and has that affected them in any way? What is their family like? Do they have siblings? Did their parents die in an accident or by murder? Did they live an average life and now face great challenges? The back story isn’t all about the past, but it mostly is. You can include present details as well, to help define who they have become as a result of who they used to be.

Try to stay away from clichés. No one finds a character that is mean and nasty because they’re parents are dead interesting. There has to be more to it than that, right? It’s not JUST that their parents are dead, but how did they die? What happened to the character after their parents died? Did they go to an orphanage where they were treated terribly? Were they adopted? Did they stay with relatives? Were those relatives mean and nasty? Were they blamed for every broken item and bad deed in the house? Or, did they have a near death experience that was horrible and terrifying? Are they now trying to achieve immortality by any means necessary in a desperate attempt to avoid that place? Did they have nightmares? Are they really being controlled by someone else? Do they actually have split personality disorder? Are they bipolar? Have they always liked watching people suffer? Were they forced by someone to endure watching others in pain to the point where they just don’t care? A character’s past is just as interesting and important as a character’s personality. And, adding up these two important elements is what makes up a character’s Biography (or Bio). In fact, a character’s backstory can be directly tied to their design as well. My character Scythe always wears a scarf. This scarf is his only way of remembering his father as he used to be, since his father was captured by Eggman and roboticized, forcing Scythe to destroy him to protect the village. If you can take all 3 of these elements and tie them together well, then you can successfully create a character.</b></ol>

OC picked: Night

1. What is your name?
 Night Skie

2. Do you know why you were named that?
Celestial names are kind of a thing in my family.

3. Single or taken?
 Taken. ^^

4. Have any abilities or powers?
Well, I'm a cat so all those natural abilities. Plus, I'm a technology genius.

5. Stop being a Mary Sue!
Excuse me?! Say that again! I dare you!

6. What's your eye color?

7. How about hair color?
Well, my hair is a shade of red (that looks orange) called Strawberry Blonde. My fur is a glossy black.

8. Have you any family members?
Just my parents Stella and Jace.

9. Oh? How about pets?
I have a Chao named Pie

10. That's cool, I guess. Now tell me something you don't like.
Cold Weather is only good for snuggling and apple cider.

11. Do you have any activities/hobbies that you like to do?
I love to play computer and videogames, kick evil butt, and draw!

12. Have you ever hurt anyone in any way before?
Pfft. I punch people all the time. That's basically my job dude.

13. Ever… killed anyone before?
Nope, unless you count the eggbots.

14. What kind of animal are you?
I'm a black panther. No, not a black leopard or a black jaguar, a panther. Here on Mobius those are an actual species.

15. Name your worst habits.
I bite my nails and tend to be super messy. I'm also over emotional.

16. Do you look up to anyone at all?
I typically look up to people I know. Like Shadow and Omega.

17. Are you gay, straight, or bisexual?
Straight as a line.

18. Do you go to school?
School? I'm a computer genius and I speak fluent English and Spanish! Dafaq would I need school for?

19. Ever want to marry and have kids one day?
Yeah, actually I do. I'd probably make a protective, but not mom.

20. Do you have fangirls/fanboys?
Yup. All them nerds in G.U.N.'s Tech Division are me underlings. They worship me like a goddess. Can't even operate without me for more than a day. XD

21. What are you most afraid of?
Like I'll tell you people. You'd probably use it to terrify me just for laughs. -.-

22. What do you usually wear?
A black tube top with white stripes, jeans, a black belt with a star shaped belt buckle, tan gloves with rings, a fuchsia collar with a bell, red converse style skater sneakers, and three gold hoop earrings.

23. What's one food that tempts you?

24. Am I annoying you?
Depends on your definition of "annoying"...

25. Well, it's still not over!
Duh. I copy and pasted this sucker. There's like 39 questions.

26. What class are you (low class, middle class, high class)?
High class. The Commander pays me a shit ton to watch our computer security. :D

27. How many friends do you have?
Like maybe 8?

28. What are your thoughts on pie?
Where's the closest eating utensil?

30. Favorite drink?
Sweet Apple Cider. Ya' know, the powdered kind.

31. What's your favorite place?
Um, probably anywhere with books, video games, and a comfy chair or couch.

32. Are you interested in anyone~?
Stripes is my handsome man. ;)

33. That was a stupid question.
I guess it wasn't obvious enough for you.

34. Would you rather swim in a lake or the ocean?
A lake. The ocean is fun and all with the waves, but there are some seriously deadly things out there, and I don't even mean the big ones like sharks! Ever seen someone on tv who was stung by a box jellyfish? Those little shits can kill you and you can barely even see them!

35. What's your type?
Someone who is sweet and doesn't think about sex ALL THE TIME.

36. Any fetishes?
Nope. Unless you count loving sweets as a fetish.

37. Seme or uke?
??? I don't even know what that means.

38. Camping or indoors?

39. Tag People!

Alright, I have the first thing I want. The evil team for the region messes with the gentics of pokemon to create fusions. Do you think you could create a model with clothes around that concept? Try to incorporate fusions into it if you can. Thanks. ^^ Message me back telling me what you want me to sprite.
